history

This season (08/09) see's the start of a new era for a football club long seen as a sleeping giant within the Sittingbourne area.
The football club have decided after long deliberations to change the football club name from UK Paper FC to Swale United FC. This name change has not been taken lightly given the clubs long history with the paper making industry within the area however the change has been made in order to gain larger and more lucrative sponsorship.
The football club has been playing organised football since the late 1920's, during these days the football club was known as Lloyds FC. The club were founder members of the Kent League and played within the league for over 20years. During this time the club reached the 1st round proper of the FA Cup in season 1936-1937, unfortunately as those involved in the club will tell you they lost to Northampton Town (i believe the score was 8-1 but stand to be corrected!!).
In the season 1948 - 1949 the club changed its name to Bowaters FC and left the Kent League to compete in the New Brompton League. During this innagural season within the league the club won the prestigious Kent League Cup, beating Bromley FC 2-1 to lift the cup thanks to a Ronnie Austin strike. Around 1984 the league changed its name to the Rochester & District League and it is known to this day.
The football club only became UK Paper in the season 1989 - 1990. From this time to late 2003 the club won various promotions to the Rochester & District Premier League. Having competed in the Premier divison for over 5years the club made the major decision to leave the league and join the Kent County League in order to progress through the league ranks.
The club joined the 2nd Divison East of the Kent County League in season 2004/2005 and have consistently finished as a mid table football team. This season will bring with it not just the new club name but also a whole new chapter in the clubs history.
