Match Report - 15 Aug 2009, Swale United Football Club Reserves lost to Cliffe Woods XI FC

Swale Reserves continue poor run with second defeat against higher league opposition.

The away side started brightest and deservedly took the lead on 18mins following a goalkeeping error which gifted the Cliffe Woods striker a tap in. After this goal the sittingbourne side ralied and with Ryan Thompson in midfield they began to win the battle with little fire power up front. Scott Bootes produced a number of fine crosses however the home side were found wanting in the finishing danger area's.

Following what can best be described as a Hodges rollicking the sittingbourne side started the second half at blistering pace and Martin Kemsley will feel he should have done better when his was gifted a free header from 8yards out only to screw the effort wide. This was to be the tale of the second half however Frankie Lodge was introduced on 60mins and he began to trouble the Cliffe Woods defence. As Swale were chasing an equaliser the visitors broke and scored their second goal on 79mins against the run of play. Swale continued to press for a goal but alas it was not to be. After the final whistle we spoke with Aaron Hodges Reserve Team manager:

"I was very dissappointed with our first half perfomance however after half time the lads really put it in for me and I felt a draw would have been a fair result, As it is Cliffe Woods showed our strikers how to finish and it is a lesson I hope they learn from and quickly."

"Their were a number of people who impressed me today with pick of the bunch, Frank Lodge who showed why he was involved all last season with the first team. I am overall happy with things but know that we need to be more clinical in front of goal and we shall be working on this at Training on Tuesday and Thursday."

Thanks Aaron and best wishes from all at the club for your wedding tomorrow on Sunday 16 August 2009.

GOOD LUCK
