Match Report - 05 Sep 2009, Swale United Football Club First XI beat Pembury FC

Swale win first competitive league game here at the Woodside Playing Fields against Pembury FC in Division 2 East of the Kent County League.

The game got underway and it was the home side who settled first playing the better football in the first 10mins. The sittingbourne side began to get in their stride on 14mins when Ashley Baverstock went close following some fine work from his strike partner Gary Harding. Swale were awarded a very dubious penalty on 19mins which Ashley Baverstock dispatched expertly. The away team were now firmly on top and David Stacey made it 2-0 on 22mins following some superb team play.

The referee then awarded another dubious penalty however these one was for the home team and their striker sent Sam Dale in the Swale goal the wrong way to make the game 2-1 on 35mins. From this point on the away team grabbed the game by the scruff of the neck and took total control. Danny Grant went on a maisy run and was rewarded for his efforts on 41mins when he finished superbly.

As the teams come out for the second half it appeared that Pembury FC may try to come at Swale however on 75mins the game was over when substitute Carl "Potsy" White stabbed home a close range effort. In all honesty Swale should have converted more of the chances they created and if the game had been 7 or 8 one the home team could have had no complaints. At the final whistle we grabbed First Team Manager Kevin Hake:

"I am absolutely delighted with how things went today, not only for the first team but also the reserves. All in all this has been a great day for the football club."

"In terms of our perfomance today the lads did everything I asked of them and whilst it took us 15mins to settle after that we were in complete control of the game. We have a great team spirit already and despite some players not being involved today the whole squad has performed well for me."

"We now move on to Bredhurst next weekend whom have a strong side and despite the result against Platt I know they will up for the game. One of my old team mates from my Gillingham days is now managing them and I know Wrenny (Nicky Wren) will have his team right up for the game."

Thanks Kevin and good luck next weekend against Bredhurst Juniors FC kick off at UK:P Sports Ground is 2.45pm.
