Match Report - 21 Nov 2009, Swale United Football Club First XI beat Hawkenbury FC

Swale hold out against strong Hawkenbury FC team in windy conditions here at UK Paper Sports Ground.

The sittingbourne side started brightly and should have been 1-0 up on 6mins when Richard King was put through and saw his effort re-bound off the cross bar from 8yards out. The home team had to wait until the 28mins to break the deadlock, the goal coming from Danny Grant with a super finish. The away side were struggling to play any sort of football in the wind and Swale continued to press the game with chance after chance going begging. Swale made it 2-0 on 37mins following a great run and finish from the inform Gary Harding playing alongside Richard King. As the teams went in at half time there was only one team ever going to win.

Hawkenbury emerged for the second period a different team and started to play the better football causing Aaron Armstrong in the Swale goal to pull off two fine saves to keep his clean sheet. The away side did break the dead lock on 67mins when a long clearence was not dealt with and the Hawkenbury striker hit an unstoppable shot from just inside the 18yard box. This goal appeared to wake the home team who began to get back into the game. Danny Grant sealed a fine victory for the team with an unbelievable strike from 25yards out which eluded the goalkeeper on 84mins.

After the final whistle we grabbed a jubilant Assistant Manager Kevin Little:

"The boys have showed today what they are capable of with their first half perfomance but again we have switched off for 20 or so minutes in the second period. Overall though it was a good team perfomance and with Danny Grant in the side we have a real match winner."

Thanks Kevin and good luck next weekend away against Hamstreet FC.
