Match Report - 07 Nov 2009, Swale United Football Club First Team beat Hollands & Blair FC
Swale win through in Kent Junior A Cup against a strong lively Hollands & Blair FC team currently top of the Rochester & District Premier Division.
Hollands & Blair FC showed just why they are top of the Premier Division with a fine display and the 3-1 scoreline did flatter the home team. Despite the scoreline flattering the home team Swale deserved to win through in this entertaining Kent Cup game. The game started at pace and within 5mins the away team were pushing for a goal calling Aaron Armstrong in the Swale goal into a smart save at his near post.
The home team settled and began to play and Danny Grant went close after a maisy run from the right. The home team continued to push for the break through and were rewarded in the 38minute when Richard King converted brilliantly to lob the goalkeeper from 20yards out. The home side continued pressing for a second but as the half time whistle blew it was the away team who went close again forcing Aaron Armstrong into a save low to his left.
The away team started well in the second period and Aaron had to be in fine form pushing a header round the post on 64mins. The game changed on 74mins when Richard King was replaced by Martin Kemsley who came on and with his first touch was put through and rifled the ball home from 8yards. To Swale's credit the visitors were playing some good footbal but never really troubling the defence of Gary Hake, Andy Mannering and Marc Greene. Despite playing well the away sides goal was slightly fortunate as they made it 2-1 on 83mins.
Swale responded to this by going up the other end and slamming home their 3rd goal of the afternoon through the hardworking Gary Harding. After the game we grabbed First Team Assistant Manager Kev Little:
"The boys played superbly today against a very strong Rochester & District team, the most pleasing thing for me was the defensive perfomance. I felt we were going to keep a clean sheet but alas this was not to be. The back three played brilliantly as did Aaron in goal but trying to single out any one player after that team perfomance would be hard."
"Richard King opened the scoring expertly and then Kemo (Martin Kemsley) came on and hit and unstoppable shot and with Gary Harding opening his account with the club it was also a good day for the strikers. All in all though Hakey and I are just happy with the attitude the lads showed following last weeks disappointing result against Saga. Today showed that we have not become a bad team over night and that consistency will be the key this season."
Thanks Kev and totally agree that this week was far better than last weekends perfomance.
