Match Report - 20 Feb 2010, Swale United Football Club First XI drew with Borden Village FC
Swale United welcomed their local rival Bordens to the UK Paper Sports Ground on Saturday
The game started brightly for the home side with Gary Harding going close on 5 and 8 mins after some great work on the left hand side. The game was an eagerly contested game but a level of mutual respect was shown by both teams. The football played was not to the usual standard you would expect and this was blighted also by the referee's insistance on stopping and starting the game and generously handing out yellow cards. This aside Swale continued to enjoy the lion share of the possesion and continue to create chances,Gary Hake this time going close on 30 mins.Borden did create a good chance but Luke Titshall was on hand to palm over on 35 mins. The teams went in 0-0 at half time and the home side left to ponder on whether the chances missed would be punished.
Swale started the 2nd half lively and after some great work by Gary Harding taking on the Borden defence he squared the ball to Scott Forster who simply tapped the ball into the net.Swale were on top until the 55 mins when Gary Hake was given a 2nd yellow card for reasons only the referee will know. This had a major impact on the game with 35 mins of the game remaining.Swale defence performed brilliantly all game and were resolute in keeping Borden at bay despite being down to 10 men. This was however always going to be an uphill struggle in a derby game where every one is fired up and the inevitable happened.Swale were undone by a great strike into the top right hand corner on 75 mins. The game then played out a draw with neither team creating any more chances.
